One of the most scenic regions in Southern Alberta is Foothills County, home to mountain vistas, crystal clear rivers and attractive towns and villages. Many of the communities in this district are linked together by The Cowboy Trail, which means they are also rich in history and the heritage of the west (see www.thecowboytrail.com).
With over 1,400 square miles of breathtaking landscapes, this county has a lot to offer those wanting to escape from the stresses of the concrete jungle that is Calgary, which in some instances is only a short drive away. The more established towns within the Foothills are:
Okotoks ( www.okotoks.ca )
Black Diamond ( www.town.blackdiamond.ab.ca ) Properties within these towns are featured under the Foothills - High River ( www.highriver.ca ) Hamlets tab.
Turner Valley ( www.turnervalley.ca )
with the following smaller hamlets and villages becoming more popular for urban living: Millarville, Priddis and Heritage Pointe.
The calendar of events for this area rivals that of any major city, with rodeos, golf tournaments and farmers markets in the summer, and Christmas markets and concerts in the winter. Local attractions include: Spruce Meadows International Show Jumping Grounds, Bar U Ranch, Marv’s Classic Soda Shop and, a favourite with all Star Trek Fans, the town of Vulcan, with it’s 31 foot long Vulcan Starship (modeled on the Enterprise).
The stunningly wonderful Rockies are minutes away, so it’s not hard to see why this area has been used as a backdrop for the film industry and inspired artists, musicians and the like. For more local information on the area go to
