Rental Scams in the News
I thought with the recent rental scams being reported in the news lately, I would remind people (by reposting this blog string) to be VERY careful renting properties from someone you do not know. Again as the rental market tightens and vacancies decrease it means people become a little frantic when searching for accommodations and therefore tempting to send money to 'absent landlords' to secure a place to rent. DON'T DO IT!
Protect yourself by meeting the landlord in person, verifying that he or she owns the property and view the property yourself or send someone you know to view it. This shortage of rental properties in the area means that the criminally minded can prey on unsuspecting people.
